This year’s host country for World Environment Day 2011 announced by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) will be India.

The theme "Forests: Nature At Your Service" should raise global awareness of the relation between life quality and health of the forests and of forest ecoystems.

More than 1.2 billion people live in India and hence there is a huge pressure on the ecological system. India was selected as global host for the World Environment Day because the Indian government is creating solutions protect their natural resources - for example with reforestation programmes and the protection of the Sundarbans, the world's largest mangrove ecosystem.
